Recycled Plastic Christmas Decorations

Every decoration here started life as a bottle top lid. We collect the lids through BRAD, the Banish Recycling and Diversion Program. Then we sort them by hand, shred them, then press them into shape as stars, baubles, trees, candy canes and Aussie animals at our workshop at Central Station, Sydney.

Each batch of lids is a different mix of colours, so no two decorations come out the same. They're light, solid and made to come out of the box every December for years.

If you're trying to make Christmas a bit less wasteful and don't know where to start, decorations are an easy first step. You buy them once, you use them every year, and each one keeps a handful of lids out of landfill.

How bottle top lids become Christmas decorations

It starts with you. People across Australia send us their bottle top lids through BRAD. Our team at Central Station in Sydney hand-sorts and cleans every lid. Every lid is shredded, then pressed into shape as a decoration by hand.

The colours come straight from the lids. Red and green lids make a red and green star. A random mix makes a Lucky Dip.

Australian made Christmas decorations from our Sydney workshop

Everything in this range is made by the Banish team at Central Station, Sydney. The lids are collected through BRAD from across Australia, then made into decorations at our workshop in Sydney.

Eco friendly Christmas decorations you'll keep

The greenest decoration is the one you don't throw out in January. These are solid recycled plastic, so they're built to go back in the box and come out again next year. Better Homes and Gardens has written about why bottle lids are tricky to recycle, and what we do with them.

Frequently asked questions

How long will these decorations last?

They're solid recycled plastic, so they're made to last for many Christmases. Pack them away in a box once the tree comes down and they'll be ready again next December.

What are they made of?

Recycled plastic bottle top lids, collected through BRAD, the Banish Recycling and Diversion Program. The colour you see comes from the lids themselves. Some products come with natural jute twine for hanging or threading.

Are they safe around kids and pets?

They're decorations, not toys. Hang them where little hands and curious pets can't chew on them, and keep the twine out of reach too.

Can I recycle them when I'm done with them?

Not at the moment. BRAD does not currently accept Christmas decorations, so the best thing you can do is keep using them. They are made to last for years, and if a piece ever breaks, hold onto it and check the BRAD accepted items list, which we update as the program grows.

When do I need to order by for Christmas?

Order by 18 December 2026 for delivery before Christmas.

Do you offer free shipping?

Yes, on orders over $99 anywhere in Australia. Under $99, standard shipping is $9.95.

Can I order in bulk for my workplace or for gifts?

Yes. We make decorations and gifts for teams and businesses at our Sydney workshop. Get in touch through our corporate page and tell us what you're after.

Will mine look exactly like the photos? And what's Lucky Dip?

Not exactly. Every decoration is made from a different mix of lids, so the swirls and flecks change from piece to piece. Lucky Dip means you let us choose the colours for you. It's a surprise mix, and no two Lucky Dip packs are the same.
