Recycling and BRAD

What is BRAD?

BRAD is the Banish Recycling and Diversion program, our Australian-run service for hard-to-recycle household items that councils won't take. You can read the full program rundown on our BRAD program page.

What does BRAD cost?

BRAD isn't free. You pay once for the box and that fee covers your pre-paid return postage plus the cost of sorting and working with specialist Australian micro-recyclers. Current pricing lives on the program page.

How do I order a BRAD box?

Order directly from our shop, choose the size that suits your household, and your kit ships out with a pre-paid return label included. See the step-by-step on the BRAD recycling program page.

What can I send through BRAD?

BRAD accepts blister packs, toothbrushes and oral care, cosmetics and beauty packaging, pens and markers, and coffee pods (including Nespresso). For full guidance see our cosmetics recycling guide and the accepted items list.

What can't I send through BRAD?

We can't accept e-waste, phones, tablets, chargers, cables, fairy lights or any batteries. Use B-cycle for all batteries, and Officeworks Bring It Back for cables, chargers and fairy lights.

Where can I drop off in Sydney?

Sydney locals can drop off at our warehouse on published collection days. Check the latest hours and address on our BRAD update page before you head over.

How long does processing take?

After your parcel reaches our Sydney warehouse, sorting typically happens within four to six weeks. From there each material stream goes to its specialist recycler on their own processing schedule, so the full cycle can take a few months.

Does BRAD take batteries?

No. BRAD does not accept batteries of any kind, including alkaline and lithium-ion. Please use the free B-cycle drop-off network, which is the safest option for any battery with fire risk in transit.

Does BRAD take phones?

No. Phones, tablets, chargers and cables are not accepted through BRAD. Officeworks Bring It Back accepts small electronics and accessories, and MobileMuster runs free phone recycling Australia-wide.

Can I send BRAD to my school or workplace?

Yes. We offer larger BRAD boxes for schools, offices and community groups. Email info@banish.com.au with your group size and we'll point you to the right kit on the program page.

Is BRAD available outside Australia?

BRAD is Australia-only at the moment. Postage costs and quarantine rules make international BRAD impractical, but we publish guides for finding good local micro-recyclers on the Banish how-to blog.

What happens to the recyclables once you've processed them?

Each material goes to a specialist Australian micro-recycler and many come back as recycled-content products in our Made by BRAD range. That closes the loop and funds the next round of sorting.
