Made From Bottle Top Lids

Australians go through billions of plastic bottle top lids every year, and most of them end up in landfill or our waterways — they're too small for standard kerbside recycling to sort.

Through our BRAD program, we collect bottle top lids from households across Australia and work with local recyclers to turn them into genuinely useful products. The lids are sorted by colour, shredded, and pressed into sheets of recycled plastic that become pens, earrings, phone stands, coasters, gardening tools and more.

Every product in this collection started as someone's bottle top lid. They're 100% Australian-made, and buying them helps fund the continued collection and recycling of lids that would otherwise have nowhere to go.

Our story

Our recycled plastic collection began with one simple idea: to show Australians that waste can be a resource. Using everyday bottle top lids collected through BRAD, we work in house to transform them into something new and useful.

From our workshop at Central Station in Sydney, we experiment with processes like injection moulding, compression moulding and sheet pressing to create durable, functional products that inspire conversation.

No two items are ever the same. The swirling colours and textures tell the story of each lid’s journey, from household recycling to a new life as a sustainable product.

By purchasing from this collection, you’re supporting Australian circular design, reducing waste, and helping keep plastics out of landfill. Together, we’re proving that small actions can have a big impact.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where do the bottle top lids come from?

All lids are collected through the Banish Recycling and Diversion (BRAD) Program, one of Australia’s largest community recycling initiatives. Thousands of Australians send us their hard-to-recycle plastics each month.

Where are the products made?

Every piece in our collection is proudly made at Central Station in Sydney by our local team and micro-recyclers.

How are the products made?

Once we receive the lids, they’re hand-sorted, cleaned and shredded at our Sydney workshop. Using processes like injection moulding and compression pressing, we melt the plastic into new forms — from pens to coasters and desk sets.

Are the colours natural?

Yes! The colours come from the original lids themselves — we never add dyes or pigments. This means each piece is completely unique, with its own colour mix and pattern.

Can they be recycled again in the future?

Absolutely, if you ever need to retire your items, simply send them back through the BRAD Program, and we’ll recycle them again.

Do you offer bulk or corporate orders?

Yes, we do! Many organisations order our recycled plastic decorations as gifts or office ornaments. You can email hello@banish.com.au for bulk pricing or custom colour options.
