Collection: Made from Bread Tags
This collection turns one of Australia’s most overlooked waste items into something extraordinary. Each product in this collection collection is made from recycled bread tags by Transmutation, diverted from landfill and transformed into long-lasting, functional designs.
Bread tags are too small for kerbside recycling, which means millions end up in landfill each year. By working with Transmutation, an Australian micro-recycler, we’re helping give these tiny plastics a powerful second life, proving that even the smallest pieces of waste can make a big impact.

The breadtag story
Transmutation is an Australian recycling initiative focused on transforming hard-to-recycle plastics into beautiful, functional objects. Using advanced micro-recycling techniques, bread tags are collected by BRAD, sorted, shredded and moulded into durable products that showcase true circular design.
Every piece in this collection is made from 100% recycled plastic bread tags, with colours and patterns that come from the tags themselves no dyes, no pigments, no two items the same.
By choosing products made from recycled bread tags, you’re helping support local recycling innovation, reduce plastic pollution, and shine a spotlight on materials that are often ignored.
This is sustainability made tangible.
Frequently Asked Questions
What are bread tags and why are they hard to recycle?
Bread tags are the small plastic clips used to seal bread bags. Because of their size and material (polystyrene), they can’t be recycled through standard kerbside systems and often end up in landfill.
Where are the products made?
These items are proudly Australian-made, created by Transmutation using local recycling processes and circular design principles in Robe in South Australia.
How can I get my plastic bread tags to you for recycling?
Plastic bread tags are collected through the Banish Recycling and Diversion (BRAD) Program, one of Australia’s largest community recycling initiatives. Thousands of Australians send us their hard-to-recycle plastics each month. You can too, more information here.
Why do the colours vary?
The colours come directly from the original bread tags. No additional colouring is added, which means each product is completely unique.
Are the products durable?
Yes. Despite being made from small plastic items, the finished products are strong, long-lasting and designed for everyday use.
Can they be recycled again in the future?
Absolutely, if you ever need to retire your items, simply send them back through the BRAD Program, and we’ll recycle them again.
Why does Banish work with Transmutation?
We partner with Transmutation because they tackle a real recycling gap in Australia. Their work aligns with our mission to support micro-recyclers, educate Australians, and prove that circular solutions already exist.
