8 simple things you can do today for a more sustainable future
Did you know that cigarette butts are the most littered plastic item in the world? They may look like cotton, but those filters are actually made from plastic and release toxins when they break down.
We believe that we should celebrate and protect our environment every day. Here are 8 easy actions you can take today and every day to do your part.
1. Reuse > Single use
Stop plastics at the source. Keep a set of reusables handy, think water bottle, coffee cup, cutlery and a tote bag. That way, you’re always ready to say “no thanks” to single-use plastics.
2. Think twice before you buy
Before buying new, take a second to check if you already have something that can do the job? This goes for everything from buying a head of broccoli to a new fashion purchase?
The most sustainable item is the one you already own.
3. Recycle those tricky items
Breadtags, blister packs, and other tricky items? BRAD (our Banish Recycling and Diversion Program) helps Aussies recycle the “unrecyclable.” Learn more and start building your box here.
4. Refillables help the world go round
Start making the switch to refillable products, like deodorants, soaps, skincare or cleaning products. Here are some of our favourites.
5. Reuse, reuse, reuse
Your parents and grandparents weren’t crazy, they were onto something! Can you reuse a ziplock bag if you simply wash it out? Can you use old plastic bags and bread bags as small bin liners? Can you turn something you no longer need into something else? Get creative!
6. Make mindful meals
Mealtime doesn’t always have to be chaos. Food waste is a huge contributor to landfill emissions. Shop to a plan, eat your leftovers and compost your scraps if possible.
7. Choose better brands
Support companies that prioritise sustainability — whether it's through ethical sourcing, plastic-free packaging, or carbon-neutral delivery. Here’s our list of brands that are vetted by us to be doing the right thing for the planet.
8. Share what you know
Spread the word or post a tip online. The more we talk about sustainability, the more normal it becomes and that’s how movements grow.
