The Problem
Australians Throw Away Millions of Pens Every Year
Most pens are used briefly and tossed without a second thought. They cannot go in your kerbside recycling bin, so they end up in landfill – where they sit for hundreds of years.
Meanwhile, billions of bottle top lids are collected through recycling programs but often have nowhere to go. We saw a chance to solve both problems at once.
So we built BRAD – and started turning waste into something you would actually want on your desk.

Every lid is hand-sorted by colour and material type at our Sydney workshop. This is what creates each pen's unique pattern.

How long does the ink last?
Each pen uses a standard ballpoint refill that lasts as long as any quality pen. Plus, your pen comes with a bonus refill included – so you get twice the writing out of the box.
What exactly are these made from?
HDPE and PP plastic from recycled bottle top lids. These lids are collected through the BRAD (Banish Recycling and Diversion) program – one of the largest hard-to-recycle waste programs in Australia. No virgin plastic, no added dyes. The colours you see are entirely from the original lids.
Can I buy more refills later?
Yes – the pens use standard 1.0mm ballpoint refills that are readily available. Your purchase includes one bonus refill to get you started.
Why is it more expensive than regular pens?
Every pen is individually handmade in Sydney from locally collected recycled plastic. This is not mass-produced – it is artisan recycling. Your purchase directly funds the collection of hard-to-recycle waste through the BRAD program. Think of it less like buying a pen and more like investing in the circular economy (that also happens to write beautifully).
Will my pen look exactly like the photos?
No – and that is the beauty of it. Because each pen is handmade from a different mix of recycled lids, no two pens are identical. Your exact pattern will be completely unique to you.
What colour options are available?
We offer 13 colour options including Lucky Dip, Midnight Black, Deep Blue, Sky Blue, Sunrise, Daisy, Greenish, Lavender Haze, Barbie Pink, Marble, Capri, and more. Each colour comes from the natural shades of the recycled lids – no dyes are added. You can also choose between black or blue ink.
