Why Swapping Your Toothbrush Should Be One Of Your First Things You Do

Why Swapping Your Toothbrush Should Be One Of Your First Things You Do

 Author: Lottie Dalziel

Before starting Banish I knew that bamboo and wooden toothbrushes were a thing but to be completely honest I didn't understand their importance. How could a small household staple be so dangerous? After doing a bit of research I was shocked to discover the stats.

Each year in Australia we throw away over 30 million toothbrushes which creates around 1000 tonnes of landfill a year!!!

As we all know your stock standard toothbrush is made up of plastic with a bit of rubber for the handpiece and nylon bristles none of which are biodegradable so will stick around long after you're gone.

That means that every toothbrush you've ever used in your life is sitting somewhere in landfill not breaking down just taking up our precious space. Say what?!?

Do your thing and make the switch to a bamboo or wooden toothbrush that is biodegradable and do your bit. Listed below are a couple of our favourites!

Sustainable toothbrush swaps:

1. Slim Bamboo Toothbrush (4-pack)

We recommend Bodecare's sustainable bamboo toothbrushes that are biodegradable. The bristles are BPA free and enhanced with activated charcoal. You can even remove the bristles and throw your brush in the compost bin!

You can get yours today, here.

2. Brush it on's Wheat Straw Toothbrush (8-pack)

What is wheat straw plastic, you may ask? Wheat straw is a strong and durable alternative for making paper and plastic products. Wheat straw is what’s leftover once the wheat is harvested and using it in plastic production is an ideal zero-waste option. These toothbrushes are compostable and can be home composted. It leaves behind no toxic material, so the compost can be used for future plant growth.

3. One for the kids! Kids Bamboo Toothbrushes (4-pack)

Brush It On's four-pack of designer toothbrushes are built from high-quality sustainable MOSO bamboo. They too are BPA free, vegan and fully compostable with no glue or varnish is used in the manufacturing process.
